Landscaping is part of the fabric of the Sea Island Company and their designs have charmed residents since 1928. The Sea Island Company delivered a landscape plan for Little Hawkins Island showing a commitment to environmental responsibility and a love of resort life.
From the entry gate, across the bridge and throughout the Island; 125,000 tumbled concrete pavers and 25,000 hand made Savannah grey brick line the pathways, walkways and roadways of Little Hawkins Island.
Over 150 trees and palms, 350 shrubs, 2000 Jasmine vines, and 1 acre of St. Augustine grasses were planted to complement the existing nature of the Island. From the many courtyards you can see Redbud, Dogwood, Cedar, Myrtle, Magnolia, Guava, and stately oak trees with their Spanish moss or walk the pathways among the Canary Island, Sago, Cabbage, and Windmill palms.
At night the natural beauty of the Island can still be enjoyed by turning
on the 60 landscape lights strategically located to gently highlight the
entire property.
By creating a place that honors the past and protects the future the Sea
Island Company delivered a landscape with an appreciation of nature,
Little Hawkins Island is truly a legacy to be enjoyed by all.
